Open letter to our listeners
For the past 17 years The Garner Family have had the priviledge of operating WGMI 1440 as a Christian Radio Station. The past 10 years we have had to borrow money each year just to stay on the air. With the decrease of preachers and commercials, as well as other support, the operating cost has far surpassed the income to the extent that we can borrow no more money that can be repaid.
After much prayer and consultation with Ministers, business owners, and friends; the Board of Directors for Garner Ministries have made a decision to change the format to what we feel will be supported by the advertisers and community of West Georgia.
Our Sunday programs will remain the same with preaching & Gospel music. However, the daily programming will now be Classic Hits, 50's - 80's, as well as additional Sports programming.
I realize this will disappoint many of you as it does me. I have fought for 17 years with no church or organizational support to keep this station on the air as Gospel. This has always been a ministry, and I've never drawn a salary. In 2008 and 2009 we had to lay off paid employees because we had no money to pay them. The only people interested in purchasing the station have said it would never be a Gospel station again. Rather than lose the station altogether, we will begin the new format & keep the Gospel going on Sundays. The change over date is Sunday Night August 22nd at Midnight.
We appreciate the support you have given this ministry over the past few years. Some of you have not had money to send but helped in other ways. I trust God will richly bless you.
Yours In Christ,
Horace W. Garner
